Well, I know it’s not typical for me to post recipes but it does go along with entertaining, right? When I find something that works AND that’s super easy – I just have to share with you. This recipe is no exception. It’s been adapted from my favorite celebrity chef – Ina Garten (aka Barefoot Contessa). Ever wonder how to make a veggie dip from scratch? Yep, me too. The nice thing about this recipe is that you may have most of the ingredients on hand already. It’s also good for your gluten free guests! I know first hand since my hubby Sean has celiac disease. Actually, that’s one of the reasons why I want to post a few more easy entertaining recipes. All my recipes are gluten free and EASY. Its very difficult to find gluten free recipes that don’t take a lot of effort (or a lot of hard to find, expensive ingredients). Because, entertaining should be fun! If you are used to buying those infamous spice packets to mix in sour cream, this will replace that. Don’t get me wrong – they are good and I have done it many times. But this is a veggie dip from SCRATCH. And you don’t have to wonder what all those spices and ingredients are in the packet. I think this has more depth of flavor too. So, let’s get on with it!
First, gather your ingredients…
- 8oz Cream Cheese
- 1/2 cup Sour Cream
- 1/2 cup Mayonnaise
- Chopped Scallions (use the white AND green parts, I use about 3 scallions total)
- Salt (1 tsp) and Pepper (1/2 tsp)
- 1 tsp dill (if you use fresh dill add a bit more)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder (can add more if like)

Here’s how to make the veggie dip!
You want to soften your cream cheese. Either set it out on the counter ahead of time or soften it in the microwave for about 10-20 seconds. Add in your additional ingredients. The scallions are the best part – they make it a chunky, hearty dip and you can garnish with them afterwards. The dill also adds the flecks of green. So pretty.
You can serve this at room temperature. I actually prefer it a little chilled. You don’t want it too cold, otherwise the cream cheese is hard to spread. After I mix in all the ingredients, I put it in the fridge. It taste great with crudités. I especially love it with celery. It’s also really good with crackers and chips though. Just make sure they are gluten free too if you have a gluten free guest coming.
How to arrange your veggie dip platter to impress your guests!
Now, all you need is a cute little serving dish and bowl for the veggie dip. Here are a few I picked (and own personally) from my favorite stores. I really love Target and Crate and Barrel for kitchen serve ware. I tend to go with white because it will always match. Plus, all white looks great arranged on open shelving or through glass cabinets. However, I do own a few different colors and textured bowls to switch it up. For arranging the veggie dip and crudités, I use a flat or low rounded edge platter and add a cute serving bowl to it, but you can also go with a set too. I own the flow chip and dip set and the flat platters from Crate and Barrel (referenced below) and I love them! There are so many uses for the flat platters too. The small winter rectangle platter I used above was a gift, but I found something similar from ShopBop. The small dip bowl I used is from Target.

To make it more interesting, arrange your vegetables as organic as possible. Keep the stems on your little carrots and cut your veggies long and round to add interest. Oh yeah, and use veggies that are in season! Here’s a few examples of arranged vegetable platters.
