I’m so excited to show you our new outdoor patio space with a Trex decking! What we had there before was this dreary, cold, wet concrete slab that was crooked and half cracked. Our Trex deck has absolutely transformed this space into a real usable outdoor living space for our family.
So, imagine cold, wet, damp, crooked concrete. I had laid a rug over it thinking – yeah, maybe we can make this work.
Nooooo. Wasn’t gonna work.
Our weather is so wet and damp that we ended up nicknaming our back patio “the swamp”. The rug ended up getting….well….lets just say we threw the rug out.
We never wanted to spend time out there unless it was unusually hot and dry. We also had this terribly uncomfortable wicker furniture with straight up backs to them – not good to sit on long term (or short term). I could never find replacement cushions for them either.
So, we finally decided to install a Trex deck over our existing concrete patio and build steps down to the path on the side of our house (since it was higher on the one side from the raised deck).
Guys, I can’t tell you enough how this was the absolute BEST decision we made! Now, if it rains, all the water gets filtered through and the deck dries in so little time! But I’ve noticed even if it’s wet, it’s really not a big deal at all.
Here was our patio space before …
After Trex Decking install..
And here is our patio space today …
We chose the Trex deck color in Spiced Rum. It’s this beautiful rich color with hints of black and a natural wood grain pattern.
We love it so much! We now spend a ton of time outside. It’s like having an addition put on the house because there is this whole new room to hang out in.
It’s definitely one of the best improvements we have made thus far to the house. (Check out the our new galley kitchen!) The only thing I will note to you guys is that the deck can get very HOT on your feet with strong sun overhead.
We have an umbrella that shades part of the deck and after 2pm the sun moves off the deck so it’s not really an issue for us. I do want to eventually buy a cute outdoor rug to put there.
We also purchased the Trex outdoor furniture too. The sofa is their Rockport Club Sofa in Tree House with Canvas Birds Eye Sunbrella cushions. We went with one of their Adirondack chairs in the same finishes to match. It’s my favorite chair! And the best part is, Trex will plant a tree for each piece of furniture you buy. Yay!
We have a chiminea in the corner that we purchased from Amazon. Great for those cool nights!
Our coffee table is the Hexa coffee table by Crate and Barrel. They have a side table too but I’m opting for a garden stool that can be easily moved around. It’s on the wishlist.
We already had the navy and white striped Sunbrella umbrella from Pottery Barn. I found some outdoor fabric in navy and white and made a few pillows to tie it all together. The white pillows with the jute trim are Pottery Barn. And the wood beaded placemats are Target.
We chose a black aluminum railing from Trex where the stairs are.
And you know me, I always have lots of terra cotta pots and flowers around. I especially love my petunias! How pretty are these?
Even our crazy wheaten, Sasha, loves it! Although she’s mainly a grass type of dog. 🙂
I hope you guys enjoyed this before and after of our new patio space! I highly recommend looking into a composite decking option for your outdoor spaces. The clean feel and maintenance free aspect makes it so worth it.
Have a great day and thank you so much visiting today!
