Valentine’s Day has definitely changed for me. I never used to do anything for Valentine’s Day. The day would come and go just like any other. But now that I have kids, it feels weird to let the day just slip by! Plus, it’s just another excuse to get out the ol’ craft kit. I really love to surprise my two little munchkins with something cute and sweet for Valentine’s day. Last year, I think I picked up something cute from the drugstore. This year – I’m going full out with a sweet treat box for Valentine’s Day. I definitely want to continue this tradition as long as I can!
These gift boxes are the cutest thing ever! I picked these guys up from Amazon around Christmas and haven’t used them until now. But I love that they can be customized for any season and they are the perfect size! Cute for a Christmas cookie gift box for a friend or neighbor, or a hostess gift or a valentine’s day treat box! They actually come flat so they are easy to store. You just pull one out and do a quick fold to put them together.
I used some pink tissue paper to line the gift boxes and then laid a piece of parchment on top of the tissue. Then the cookies!
And you know how I love my kraft paper gift tags! I use these guys ALL THE TIME. I’ve used them for presents, yes, but also to organize my linen cabinet. And I actually have another little DIY up my sleeve that I’m going to use them for (more to come on that.) Anyways, I highly recommend these gift tags. For this particular treat box, I made a valentine’s day gift tag with little hearts. I’ve been working on my hand lettering too. LOL. Gotta a ways to go yet! 🙂
I also threw in some Hershey kisses. I really wanted the valentine’s day kisses but I didn’t get a chance to pick any up from the store before I did this post. Those would be perfect! They are red and pink and silver. But you could really throw in whatever candy or treats you want to round out the box.
I finished off the boxes with some red/white baker’s twine. Another one of my obsessions.
By the way, these are the most amazing gluten free cut-out cookies ever. Would you guys be interested in that cookie recipe? It’s a recipe given to me from my mother in law. At my wedding shower, she gave me a whole stack of hand written family recipes. I still refer to them very often! These cookies are soft (like little pillows), with a little crunch around the edges. I love cut outs because they work for so many holidays and occasions. All you need are different cookie cutters. Like hearts for Valentine’s Day, or trucks for a little boy’s birthday, or apples for a teacher, etc. The possibilities are really endless. I usually put icing on them. This time, I made them marbled cut outs and I just love the way they look so I kept them plain. (Although my hubby disagrees and wants icing!)
