My Bio

My name is Karen Sloan and I’m the sole founder of Decor Hint. I’m first and foremost a happy wife and mom living in North Carolina.

I graduated from Saint Joseph’s University with a Business and Information Technology (IT) degree. My first job was working behind the helpdesk at an accounting firm, followed by a ten-year career in real estate sales.

I met my husband Sean while working as a Realtor in Philly. We married, moved to the suburbs, and had two beautiful children.

When a job opportunity arose in Seattle, WA, we seized it and purchased a 1920s craftsman-style home out there, which we later completely renovated. We started documenting the renovation process on this blog, and as they say, the rest is history.

My Journey into Home Decorating

Growing up, I was always drawn to design and decor. From rearranging furniture in my childhood bedroom to helping friends decorate their spaces, I found joy and fulfillment in the creative process of transforming a room.

I’ve refined my decorating skills throughout my career as a Realtor and numerous home renovations. Touring thousands of homes and assisting clients in preparing their properties for sale provided invaluable experience. From my first condo renovation to a complete rebuild of our Seattle craftsman and many in between, each project has enriched my skills as a decorator.

Every undertaking has provided valuable lessons, deepened my understanding of home decor, and fueled my passion to inspire others. As the founder of Decor Hint, I am dedicated to empowering individuals to craft spaces that resonate with their distinct styles and personalities.

Qualifications

• I have more than 10 years of experience in real estate, during which time I collaborated closely with staging companies and designers to prepare homes for sale. This hands-on involvement allowed me to develop a keen eye for design and aesthetics.
• My home and projects have been featured on major websites, including BuzzFeed, Apartment Therapy, TLC, MSN, The Pioneer Woman, Pottery Barn Teen, Bustle, The Spruce, Shutterfly, Redfin, Yahoo, and more.
• I have created content for major home brands, such as AllModern, Tumble Rugs, Revival, Weaber Lumber, King of Christmas, Votivo, and Afloral.
