Today, we’re diving into the world of pillow covers. I’m sharing 3 essential decorating tips for throw pillows and my pillow favorites that won’t break the bank but will still deliver that ‘wow’ factor.
Amazon has some fantastic options that look way more expensive than they are. So, grab a cup of coffee, and let’s get into it!

1. Balance is Key
I like to incorporate both solids and patterns in my pillow game to balance out the room. I don’t want an overwhelming amount of pattern that looks and feels too busy. (Some designers, like Heidi Caillier, know how to do this well.)
If you have patterned drapes or a busy patterned rug, opt for more solid throw pillows and smaller patterns or stripes on your pillows that don’t feel “too busy.” If you have solid curtains and/or a more solid-colored rug – then by all means, bring on those pops of color and pattern!

2. Less is More
UNPOPULAR OPINION. While I love a good throw pillow as much as the next person, I’m not a fan of sofas and beds that are so chock full of pillows you can’t sit down properly. Making your bed in the morning shouldn’t take 30 minutes of pillow fluffing. It’s not practical. I think 2 pillow combos are where it’s at. Maybe 3 if you want to, but 2 can make just as much impact without all the hassle.

3. Inserts Matter
You want a fluffy, synthetic-filled, or feather-filled pillow insert. I’m partial to synthetic because I hate feathers poking me. Those spongy poly-filled inserts are just not good. Always go for an insert the next size up to your pillow cover to get that plush, overstuffed look.
For instance, if you have an 18×18 cover, go with a 20×20 insert. My go-to pillow insert brand on Amazon is

Pillow covers are a great way to add color and softness to your spaces. And let’s not forget the seasons! I love to swap a few of my covers depending on the time of year: velvets for winter, maroons and rusts for fall, and more coastal blue vibes for spring and summer!
