I love a good accent chair. It can be that “cherry on top” when completing a space. There are so many good accent chairs on Amazon that won’t break the bank, and I decided to highlight a bunch of my favorites and give some good tips for placement and styling. Let’s go!
Types of Accent Chairs
An accent chair is just that. An accent. It doesn’t need to be the star of the show, although it certainly can be. My point is don’t think an accent chair has to be this expensive, monstrous chair in your room. Accent chairs can also be single, beautiful antique Windsor chairs, rattan chairs, or wingback chairs. Even dining chairs! In a kid’s space, an accent chair could be a butterfly chair or a low-profile sling chair.

Think about the other furniture in the room and choose an accent chair that complements, not matches, your sofa. For instance, if you love a mix of modern and vintage, choose a modern sofa and pair it with a more vintage-looking chair. If you want something that’s not going to call attention, consider a neutral-colored boucle chair.
Location, Location, Location
Let’s talk location, location, location. Near the sofa, around a coffee table, by a window with a view, or as part of a cozy reading nook – that’s where it wants to be. It’s all about creating a spot that says, “Hey, come sit and stay awhile.” Accent chairs work in a variety of rooms – bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, home offices, and even a closet – I say if your closet is big enough – go for it!

Speaking of location – don’t be afraid to “float” your accent chair. A good accent chair can help section off a room and provide a cozy conversation area.

Furniture doesn’t have to be, (and I don’t think it should be), smashed up against the walls. Bring that accent chair out a bit – float it in front of your fireplace for a cozy reading nook. Or float a couple of matching accent chairs opposite to complement a sofa.
Adding style to your Accent Chair
Accent chairs can really be a star all on their own, especially if they have a fun pattern, color, or texture to them. But sometimes, our accent chairs need a bit of zhushing. Throw pillows are a secret weapon here. Size matters, my friends. Nothing too big. I like a single 18×18 or 20×20 or a lumbar pillow here. While I am a lover of throw pillows, I am also aware of function (you have to be able to sit comfortably!), and too many pillows or too big a pillow is a no-no in my book.

But wait, there’s more. Blankets. Yes, draping a cozy throw over the back of your chair can instantly up the comfy factor. It’s like your chair is giving you a warm hug. Plus, it’s a great way to introduce texture and depth to your living room.

Finally! In some cases, it makes sense to pair it with a side table or a lamp. This isn’t just about function; it’s about creating a vignette that draws the eye. A table for your coffee cup, a lamp for that soft glow – it’s the little things that make a space feel complete.
If you have two accent chairs, as shown in the photo above, you can either keep them alone or add a small table in between. It’s all about what feels right to you. Bringing in a table is also a good opportunity to add a cozy table lamp, so if you need some additional lighting in your space, by all means, bring in that side table!
Wrapping up and styling your accent chair doesn’t have to be a headache. With a few simple touches—placement, pillows, throws, lighting, and accessories—you can turn that chair into a statement piece.
