I’m so excited to share a little peek at our backyard pool area. While this space is not 100% complete, it’s enough for me to snap a few photos and tell you what’s in store for the rest.

Our gunite pool is finished with midnight blue stonescapes, which gives us a beautiful deep blue color to the water.  We were initially afraid it would be too dark, but thankfully, we stuck with our guts on this one because it was the exact pool finish we were going for.

These photos were taken at 6:30 a.m. If the pool looks dark, it’s because the sun hasn’t fully hit it yet. I gotta say, the warm glow at this time of day is just stellar. The golden hour really is that magical.  The surrounding pool pavers are a light gray (called Ice), and I love the contrast they bring against our medium-blue pool.  You can learn more about the installation of our pool here.

I picked up these two folding wood chairs from Costco, but they sell the same chairs on Amazon.  They are comfortable!  My kids always sit in these after swimming to warm up in the sun.  I coated them with a protective finish because they sit out there all day and night.  Time will tell how long they last, but I love their look.

These striped blue pool floaties were an Amazon buy. Let me tell you—they are tough as nails! My kids and their friends are pretty rough on them, and they are still as good as new.

Public Service Announcement: I highly recommend purchasing an air pump. It makes blowing up floaties an absolute breeze.

Our yellow and white stripe umbrella is a Midtown Umbrella, available here.  I took a bit of a risk with this umbrella because I’m not a huge yellow fan.  But I’m trying to step out of my comfort zone with color this year.

Do I regret it?  A little bit.  I wish I had gone for the navy and white stripe or a solid color instead.  The good news is that you can buy replacement canopies, which are fairly easy to switch out.

Moving on to our loungers.  We love these mesh lounge chairs (also available here). I am anti-cushion furniture for outdoor furnishings because I hate wet, soggy cushions! And who wants to run out and bring the cushions in every time it rains?  Not this gal.  These chaises were easy to assemble and comfortable for lounging. They have little wheels on the back legs to move them around effortlessly.

I do want to put something behind these loungers, either a large potted plant with a trellis or simply a large trellis. I need to cover some unsightly outlets, and the wall looks pretty bare.

The table in the middle is my DIY concrete table. I think I will paint it, as the gray doesn’t give me the pop of color I want here.

We picked up this cedar bar here and put it together in one day, although it took all day.

We hung an outdoor TV and some faux boxwoods around it.  Watching sports while swimming has been fun, and my kids sometimes eat lunch out here.  It gives you good shade when you need a break from the sun.  The chairs are from Amazon, too!

We also purchased this cedar potting station (similar one here), which I’m using more as an outdoor buffet for entertaining.  I am planning some outdoor decor ideas for it, so stay tuned.

What’s left?

  • Landscape Lighting
  • Add lights to our bar area
  • Trellis for behind loungers
  • Decorate Potting Station
  • Paint Concrete Side Table
  • More flowers: I have lots of greenery (especially boxwoods, which I will eventually shape into topiary balls), but I want some flowers.
