I’ve been searching for the perfect entryway table for years. I need it to be specific in terms of width and length to fit the wall and tall enough to go under our round wood mirror.

I had made an open console table for it years ago but soon realized I didn’t love its openness. It felt too cluttered next to the ladder bookshelf right around the corner from it. So, I finally decided to build the furniture piece I had been looking for all these years and painted it a warm maroon red (Red Henna by Valspar).

The Unexpected Red Theory

Have you ever heard of the unexpected red theory? It basically means that adding an unexpected pop of red to a room can make it look better. This could be anything from paint to a piece of furniture to books and artwork—you name it!

It makes sense when you think of the Holidays. Christmas decorations often include red and green. These colors create a warm and inviting atmosphere, and they make our spaces feel festive.

I will say this red entryway cabinet has made this entryway feel more alive for us. I love the combo of navy and maroon, so repeating this throughout our downstairs helps the open-concept space feel more connected. Here are some reasons to incorporate reddish hues into your home decor:

  • Creates a bold statement: Red instantly adds drama and personality to any room.
  • Boosts energy: This color is known for its stimulating effects, which can help make spaces like living rooms, dining rooms, or home offices feel more active and inviting.
  • Adds warmth: Red’s naturally warm tone can make a room feel cozy and intimate, especially in colder seasons.
  • Complements traditional styles: Red pairs beautifully with dark woods and vintage accents for a timeless look.

In Feng Shui, red is seen as a powerful and lucky color that represents energy, passion, and good fortune. It’s linked to the Fire element, bringing warmth and vitality into your home. Red is believed to attract positive energy, especially when used at the front door, in the living room, or in the kitchen. So take a moment and think about how you can add a bit of red into your spaces and see how it makes you feel.
