More than 150 miles of one-way trails wind through the woods at one riding spot. One-way trails help reduce the risk of head-on collisions, although riders still need to watch for other vehicles.

The land itself is huge, stretching across thousands of acres of red clay and forest. It also holds motocross tracks, a drag strip with lights, and kid-sized tracks for tiny riders.

I like that you don’t need to own a single machine to join the fun. Rentals cover ATVs, dirt bikes, and side-by-sides, and the gear usually comes along too.

All of this sits in the middle of Georgia, not out West where most people expect it. I can’t imagine a better excuse to get muddy on a weekend.

So which machine would you grab first?

Plenty of people skip off-roading because they don’t own a quad. Off-Road Adventures at Durhamtown, long known as Durhamtown Off Road Resort, fixes that problem fast.

The resort rents ATVs, dirt bikes, and side-by-sides. Machines come in options for different skill levels, ages, and sizes.

Rental packages typically include boots, helmets, and other protective gear. That means you can show up in regular clothes and leave looking like a pro rider.

You can book a full day or a half day. A half day works well for first-timers testing the waters, or the clay, in this case.

Side-by-sides make a smart pick for families or friends who want to ride together. One person drives, everyone else holds on and laughs.

Dirt bikes suit riders who want a lighter, quicker machine on the trails. ATVs land right in the middle, steady but still plenty exciting.

Booking ahead is a wise move, especially for busy holiday weekends. Nobody wants to drive a couple of hours and then watch from the parking lot.

Ask the rental team which machine fits your experience. Picking the right ride makes the whole day smoother and a lot more fun.

Over 150 miles of trails loop through the property, and almost all of them run in one direction. That single rule changes the whole riding experience.

Head-on surprises are a real worry at many parks. Here, everyone moves the same way, so you can focus on the next turn instead of oncoming traffic.

Parents riding with young kids love that setup for good reason. Families can enjoy the woods together with a lot less stress.

The trails welcome ATVs, UTVs, dirt bikes, Jeeps, 4x4s, and rock crawlers. That’s quite a mix of machines sharing the Georgia forest.

Some routes stay rough and natural, with roots, ruts, and bumps. Others feel smoother and more relaxed for newer riders.

Distances can surprise you, too. Crossing from one end of the property to the other can take a good chunk of time.

Emergency call boxes sit along the trails for safety. Phone service out there is spotty, so those boxes matter.

A tip worth packing: put your phone in airplane mode while you ride. Your battery will thank you when the dusty day finally winds down.

Hard-packed routes with gentle turns sit at one end of the scale. Muddy swamps and steep hill climbs sit way out at the other.

New riders can start on smooth, easy paths and build confidence slowly. Nobody gets pushed into a scary drop on day one.

Intermediate folks get berms and small jumps to play with. Those features add a little thrill without turning into a stunt show.

Experts have plenty to chew on too. Technical sections, obstacle areas, and swampy stretches test both rider and machine.

Dirt bike fans get an extra treat. Roughly 35 to 40 miles of single-track trails are set aside just for two wheels.

Jeep owners aren’t left out either. Rock areas and tougher trails give 4x4s a real workout across the property.

The famous red clay deserves its own mention. It packs down hard on many tracks, making smooth throttle control and careful riding especially important.

My advice is simple: start easier than your ego wants. You can always level up after lunch, and your arms will appreciate the warm-up.

So Many Tracks, You’ll Need A Map Just To Count Them

Fourteen tracks. Yes, fourteen, and each one has its own personality.

Motocross riders get a long list, from MX 1 through MX 6. The Pro MX track carries the fun nickname The Bomber.

Smaller riders have the Learner track, STACYC track, PeeWee MX, and Armadillo. Those names alone sound like a cartoon lineup.

Speed lovers should look at the Turbo Track. It stretches over a mile long and lets machines really open up.

A GP Track comes with grandstands, so friends can watch the action. There’s also a Flat Track and two Rhythm courses.

Then there’s the Drag Strip, complete with a lighting system. Straight-line racing on red clay is a very Georgia kind of thrill.

Racers can check out the event calendar too. Race series and holiday poker runs pop up during the year.

Tracks here are known for being hard-packed, which feels fast. Ride within your limits, because speed is the whole point and also the whole challenge.

Kids aren’t an afterthought at Off-Road Adventures at Durhamtown. Youth tracks and kid-friendly riding areas give young riders space to learn.

The STACYC track suits the tiniest riders on electric balance bikes. PeeWee MX gives slightly bigger kids a taste of real motocross.

Separate kid areas keep beginners away from faster adult traffic. Parents can relax a bit while their mini racers practice.

Pricing even includes special rates for women and children riders. That makes a family trip easier on the budget.

Birthday trips seem like a natural fit here. A weekend of riding sounds way better than another pizza party.

Rentals cover different sizes, so smaller riders aren’t stuck on machines that are too big. Proper gear comes into play for little ones too.

Pack snacks, water, and patience. Kids burn energy fast on dirt tracks, and a cranky rider is no fun for anyone.

Start them slow and cheer loudly. A first lap without stalling deserves a celebration worthy of a trophy ceremony.

One day of riding rarely feels like enough. Luckily, the resort offers places to sleep right on the property.

Cabins work for solo riders, families, or groups. Some include heating, air conditioning, and private bathrooms, while simpler ones keep things basic.

Many quarters come with BBQ grills and fire pits. Upgraded spots can add TVs, microwaves, or full kitchens.

RV travelers get two choices: Durhamtown RV Park and Little River RV Park. Both offer 30-amp and 50-amp full hookups.

Pads come in gravel or concrete. Groups can grab buddy sites so friends park side by side.

Little River RV Park adds catch-and-release fishing ponds. It also has golf cart and mountain bike trails for downtime.

Tent campers can choose primitive camping for a more back-to-basics stay. Bathhouses with showers sit around the grounds.

Pets are welcome for a fee, so the family dog can tag along. Just maybe keep Fido off the motocross jumps.

Riders forget stuff. It happens to everyone, usually right after a two-hour drive.

The on-site Pro Shop stocks gear, parts, and supplies. It also handles vehicle sales and service.

You can try gear on before buying, which beats guessing sizes online. Batteries, lubes, and parts are available on site too.

Fuel is right there on the property. No need to hunt for a gas station with a half-empty tank.

Bike wash stations let you clean off that red clay before heading home. Your truck bed and garage floor will be grateful.

A small cafe serves food on the grounds. It’s a handy stop for refueling the rider, not just the machine.

Restrooms and bathhouses with showers give you a chance to freshen up. A quick rinse makes the ride home much nicer.

Having everything in one place keeps the day simple. Less running around means more time actually riding, which is the whole point.

Back in 1793, this land was awarded to Samuel Durham. He earned it for his service in the Revolutionary War.

That’s where the Durhamtown name comes from. Pretty impressive roots for a place now famous for mud and motocross.

Mike McCommons founded Durhamtown in 2002. It started as a hunting club idea and grew into a full sportsman’s resort.

Over the years it became one of the biggest off-road spots in the Southeast. Riders from many states came to tackle its trails.

Things paused briefly in January 2022. Then the park reopened in April 2022 under Tim McCommons, Mike’s brother.

Today it runs as Off-Road Adventures at Durhamtown. Many folks still simply call it Durhamtown Off Road Resort.

Keeping it in the family feels fitting for a place with such deep history. The land has stories, and riders keep adding new ones.

Next time you’re bouncing over a root, think about that. You’re riding across more than two centuries of Georgia history.

Two hours. That’s roughly how far it sits east of Atlanta, just off Interstate 20.

The full address is 2350 Randolph Church Rd #2016, Union Point, GA 30669. Plug it into your GPS before cell service gets shaky.

That state park makes a nice side trip on a rest day. Sore arms might appreciate a calm afternoon.

Restaurants and a grocery store are within about 20 minutes. Stocking up on the way in saves time later.

Central Georgia’s location helps riders from nearby states too. Folks from Florida and the Carolinas make the trip.

Holiday weekends bring events like poker runs, so plan accordingly. Check the schedule before you go.

Load the trailer, pack the sunscreen, and download your maps ahead of time. Off-Road Adventures at Durhamtown is waiting, and that red clay isn’t going to ride itself.
