Let’s talk about a secret weapon in the decorating world: mirrors. I’m sharing my favorite inexpensive mirror picks with you today and why you should consider them for just about every room in your house—except maybe the garage, but it would work there, too. Mirrors are like magic wands that can make your rooms brighter and bigger without breaking the bank.

Mirrors Make Rooms Brighter

Have you ever walked into a room and felt it needed more oomph? Mirrors to the rescue. They bounce light around like it’s their job (which, in a way, it is).

See that natural light streaming through your windows? Mirrors grab it and spread it around the room like confetti, making your space feel open and airy. So, if you’re all about that bright, cheerful vibe, mirrors are your new best friend.

A good rule of thumb with mirrors is to hang them opposite a window. Got a beautiful view outside? Reflect that.

Mirrors Work for Every Room in Your House

Mirrors aren’t picky. Name a room, and I’ll bet you a dollar that a mirror would fit right in.

Living Room: They work pretty much anywhere, especially above a fireplace mantel. The only place they might not work is right across from the TV. I’m not sure you want HGTV and the latest Netflix binge-reflecting around the room.

Dining Room—Mirrors are excellent for dining rooms! Hang one above a sideboard or invest in a taller, leaner mirror to make the space feel bigger. A mirror also doubles your space’s candlelit dinner vibes—so dreamy!

Bedroom—A leaning floor mirror is almost a must-have for every bedroom space. It is great for checking out your outfits in full view. You can also hang one above your dresser. Or, consider hanging two identical mirrors on the wall space behind your nightstands.

Bathroom—A mirror above the vanity is a must-have. If you live in a builder-grade home, swapping the mirrors is an easy way to add personality to the bathroom space.

Entryway – A mirror in the entryway is functional and beautiful. It’s always good to have a quick check before you head out!

Home Office – Hang one on any wall! I have a large mirror hanging above my desk. I love the look, and it helps my little office corner feel brighter.

Hallway—Mirrors can be placed on any wall in a hallway and are great for making these tighter spaces feel larger.

Where not to hang a mirror?

You might not want a mirror in some places for obvious reasons. Let’s discuss.

  • Above your bed – could be dangerous.
  • Just say no to mirror kitchen backsplashes.
  • Opposite anywhere that’s full of clutter. Don’t reflect anything ugly.
  • Across from your front door, feng shui says no, and it’s also weird to see yourself like that when entering a home.
  • Across from a TV – self-explanatory.
  • Mirrors on the ceiling. Nope.

Get the Look for Less

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “But decorating with mirrors can get pricey, right?” Wrong! Sure, you can drop some serious cash on a designer mirror if that’s your jam (Primrose Mirror, I’m looking at you). But if you’re like me and you’d rather save your pennies, there are plenty of budget-friendly options out there.

First, hit up your local thrift store or flea market to find something cheap. For less expensive versions, check out Amazon, Walmart, and Target.

And because I love shopping at Amazon, I rounded up some of my favorite mirror picks for you.
