We have a small full bathroom upstairs right off our hallway that is due for a refresh. It’s the first thing you see when you turn the corner from the stairs. It’s a windowless bathroom, which is always a challenge.

Right now, it’s very beige and boring. The only thing I’ve done here is hang a shower curtain, hooks, and artwork. Other than that, it’s pretty bare-bones.

One of my goals this year is to add more color to our home. I’ve decided that sage green needs a presence here, and there’s no better room to try it out than this bathroom.

Here are some of the green paint colors I’m considering. It’s funny how different paint swatches can look when you bring them home and put them on your walls (especially when you lack natural light). Some of the chips I grabbed didn’t look green at all! So, I advise you to go hog wild on the paint chips. Grab a bunch of them and test them all out on your walls. You never know.

When first designing a space, I like to create a mood board in Canva. It helps me focus on the design and organize my thoughts visually.

Expert Tip: I use a free Chrome extension called ColorPick Eyedropper. It lets me grab the hex code for any color on a webpage. So, I can look up virtually any paint color online, grab the color code, and then input that into Canva. Voila! I can easily swap paint colors with the click of a mouse.

These mood boards are basically the same except for the paint color.

I love the idea of bringing in some character with a shower curtain. The only problem? Shower curtains are typically too short. Like my window curtains, I like my shower curtains high and long. Not so long that you are tripping on them around the tub, but long enough that it adds some elegance.

For these reasons, I’ve started using window curtains as shower curtains. And yes, you can find a shower liner that’s long enough. If you buy a grommet-style curtain, hanging it is a breeze. But I know a lot of folks don’t love the look of grommets, so I’m working on a tutorial for how to use a window curtain as a shower curtain.

The mood boards below are the same paint color but have different shower curtains and accessories.

I should add that I cannot change the flooring or vanity top with this makeover. After putting in a pool, we are trying to keep our expenses low for a while. Not to mention, the goal of this blog has always been creating spaces you love on a budget.

I would like to hang a new light fixture, mirror, and accessories (shower curtain included.) I love the polished chrome look, so I’m going all in with that finish. As much as I love brass, my husband is not really a fan.

I think some new towels and perhaps a small rug are also in order. Stay tuned. If you have a minute, let me know which bathroom version you like the best in the comments!
